Nothing Gold Can Stay

If you read my book then you also know about the things happened 4 years ago. With one of my best friends Johnny I ran away to Windrixville. It was a big adventure for us. Everything begun when Johnny killed Bob –the soc. We went to Windrixville and stayed there a week or so. We read “Gone With The Wind” and talked about the poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” Then Dally showed  up and we went to the city. He told us that the next day there was a big rumble and Cherry Valance was spying for us. I was very surprised and a bit angry from this. While we were going to church, we saw the church was on fire. There was a teacher and he told us his students were inside. We quickly ran inside to save the children. I didn’t die because my wounds were not as big as Johnny’s and Dally pushed me from the fire. He also tried to save Johnny, but it was too late. A big timber fell into Johnny’s body. Later we went to the hospital. Darry was very sad because he slapped me. After the rumble –we won it- I went to the hospital with Dally to see Johnny. Johnny’s last words were “Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold.” With this sentences, he told me to stay like a child. Always stay the same and always be different than others... I’m trying you stay gold, but it is not easy. It’s true that time changes everything. With time, people change, their thoughts change, their personality change. Maybe I would stay gold if Johnny didn’t die. I always feel his nonexistence. I always need a friend to talk and a friend who can understand me all the time. Since Johnny’s death, I can’t find anyone like this. I miss him more than anyone in the world. Just for Johnny, I stay gold.
